Although Janet has lived in every time zone in the US, this artist now makes her home in San Diego. Originally an X-ray technologist, she has followed her creative urges from childhood into several areas: sewing, watercolor painting, jewelry making, and handcrafting miniature dolls and accessories.
Janet’s varied interests have inspired her to try collage, mainly using her own hand painted papers. For several years she has created paper paintings of memories, florals, foods and landscapes. She enjoys creating highly textured small designs on paper wood and canvas.
She continues to experiment with watercolor, ink, crayons in sketchbooks, and a more intuitive way of collage and acrylic painting. Janet has recently completed a handmade book of sixty original collages that complements her favorite Haiku, a Japanese form of poetry.
Most of my art is collage painting created with the layering of my own hand painted papers and various printed materials. I add marks using acrylic paint, crayons, pencil, stencils and ink; scrapers, sticks, and other textured items add interesting shapes. My best results come from when I allow time to relax, play, and experiment. The process continues with adding and subtracting paint and papers; analysis then uncovers memories of travels, landscapes, favorite items or foods. When an idea resonates, I continue playing until I am satisfied with results.
