RED WILLOW
My square paintings have had various origins, such as a poem, a building, a captivating detail of daily life. For example, “Red Willow” came from a housepaint color I once used on an entrance wall in a favorite house, one of the complex Ralph Lauren paints from the late 90’s….that desert-red bar in this painting. I thought I’d made a big mistake as I painted it on the wall, but when the final brush stroke was applied and the paint dried, I choked up. It was springtime, and those greens were falling past the windows. It always tugged at my heart when I opened the front door.
“Red Willow” is one of many paintings in a series described as “minimalist, assymetric, clean and quiet” in my first entry.
