“Sea Fern” is based on the brown marine alga Cystoseira. It incorporates photo transfers of dried and pressed Cystoseira I collected on the shores of La Jolla in 1978. I also projected enlarged images of the dried alga to create the base of this abstract, collaged, painting. My intent was to focus on the importance of marine algae as they produce the bulk of our earth’s oxygen.
